Why verification matters
A PDF certificate is a picture; anyone can edit a name in it. A verification link is what makes it worth something to the employer or the regulator on the other side: they open it and see that this person, on this date, passed this assessment.
That is also what protects you. If a certificate is questioned, there is a record rather than an argument.
What belongs on it
- The learner's full name, exactly as they typed it.
- What they passed — the course or assessment title, not a file name.
- The date, and the issuing organisation.
- A verification link, and nothing that needs to stay private: a certificate gets forwarded.
- No score, unless you have decided a score belongs in public. Pass or fail is usually the right level of detail.
Running it at scale
- Decide in advance whether a failed attempt can be retaken, and say so before the quiz starts.
- Keep the assessment short — fifteen focused questions certify more honestly than sixty tedious ones.
- Export results for your records; the certificate is for the learner, the export is for your compliance file.
- For repeat cohorts, duplicate the quiz rather than editing the live one, so old certificates stay tied to the assessment that was actually taken.
